Kernave0002Kernave – the first and the oldest Lithuanian capital that was built in 13th century by the river Neris on a hill. The place is located about 35 km from Vilnius. Kernave is visited because of a very nice panorama and is famous for its mounds, archaeological sites, historical and cultural monuments. For Lithuanians Kernave is important, because served as a fortress, held numerous battles against Crusaders and finally destroyed by them in 1390. Since 2004 Kernave is included in to UNESCO’s cultural heritage list.
