Druskininkai0001Druskininkai – this little town is located about 135 km from Vilnius just by the border of Belarus. Druskininkai is situated on the banks of largest Lithuanian river Nemunas and is surrounded by pine forests. The place is the most famous county’s health resort with modern hotels, spa centres, specialised clinics and sanatoriums. The name of Druskininkai is derived from a word salt – “druska” in Lithuanian. This name was given not by coincidence, but because all over the town there are springs of salty water, which already in 19th century were used to heal various diseases. If requested, a visit to M. K Ciurlionis or Druskininai grown world famous cubist sculptor Jacques Lipchitz little museum can be made. The acquaintance with the town could be finished by walking trough Vilnius alley which in the summer has beautiful flower gardens and cool shade of chestnuts.
